Cancer Warrior, Leaving a legacy
Hi, I’m Damien Lee, an Australian born entrepreneur who has always had an interest in running my own businesses. From Australia to Sweden, Singapore and Afghanistan, I’ve built my companies from the ground up, including a financial markets head hunting company, an international security company, maritime communications and more.
All the businesses I have ever built have generally been in industries I had no experience within, this allows me to lead with a fresh new perspective, carving new routes to market through industries that may not have changed for many years.
My addiction to business came to a halt in 2014 when I was diagnosed with stage 4 chest and stomach cancer and I was given only weeks to live at the time. It was then that I became a cancer warrior, determined to fight to be here for my two boys.Inspired by Horace Mann’s quote, ‘Be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity’, I knew I had to make changes to my life, but also help others who may find themselves in a similar situation to me, I decided to leave my legacy for humanity…
I started by changing my lifestyle and eating habits, knowing that you are what you eat. At the end of my first battle with cancer I decided to create a new business producing the healthiest instant noodle, one that I could eat, with all the bad stuff taken out and only good stuff added in. At Mr Lee’s Pure Foods my team and I have not only developed an award-winning brand of noodles but also an innovative, interactive ‘Noodle Kiosk’ providing a 24/7 healthy hot food option.
I have also co-founded two other businesses: SoluBlue – creating innovative and sustainable packing solutions to fight the war on plastic and Moses Motorcycles – a clothing brand born from my love of adventure and riding motorcycles.
I have won several awards throughout the years including The Stevie Awards for Entrepreneur of the Year 2020 and the Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2019 – Small Business Entrepreneur of the Year, as well as being part of The Sunday Times Maserati 100 2018 list and finalist for Entrepreneur of the Year 2016 for the Amazon Growing Business Awards. I also lead seminars, conferences, talks at universities, aid charities and I am currently building the Mr Lee’s Foundation.
Since my original diagnosis I have fought cancer another 4 times and continue to undergo further treatments. Having beaten cancer before, I am more convinced than ever of the power of healthy eating and having a positive mindset and I’m determined to keep going for my two amazing boys.
